Last night I felt like a naughty, rebellious child; not because I got totally lashed on the amazing complimentary Midori cocktails (I didn’t!) but for rocking up to to an eyelash launch, not wearing the brand of lashes being showcased, but wearing lashes created by straight talking, beautiful top model Alisha White!
Alisha, runner up of Britain’s Next Top Model in 2010, was my favourite contestant of cycle 6. Her honesty and humorous commentaries cut through the BS often spouted by other contestants and people-pleasers, giving us a real insight (however edited) to what life was like inside the top model house. She MADE the series, and I am convinced that her persona combined with fierce modelling credentials, is what lead her to being personally invited to take part in America’s Next Top Model- British Invasion, by no other than Tyra Banks herself. Since meeting her last year, I can testify to the fact that Alisha is just as funny in the flesh, as she is on screen and her charming warm nature is a testimony given the nature of the industry she works in.
These days, although still very much a model, when not shooting for Topshop, or Harvey Nicks, you can find Alisha building her empire, starting with what she knows best- beauty! MODEL IT by Alisha White are a brand new line of lashes; They are light weight and durable. The first products in the range provide a gorgeous ‘natural glam’ look for everyday wear. More products will be added, to Alisha’s line, so keep checking the site for the latest additions: My favourites so far are the ‘Fierce’ lashes, characterised by their ‘criss cross’ detail, a design which is perfect for adding volume subtly..
Not so subtle was my reaction (blatant squirming) when I arrived at the event, and was asked if my lashes were from ‘Total Minks’ the company hosting the event. I went down the ‘honesty is the best policy’ route, admitting that although I suspected there was a chance to have the lashes put on during the night, I wasn’t taking the risk of my ‘fully’ made up face looking unfinished, by leaving without my own lashes.
The likes of Luisa Zissman, Team Towie and a host of TV regulars, and celebrity make up artists caused a paparazzi storm, when arriving to show their support for a brand that is set to become a household name.
If you didn’t know, you’re about you find out that Mink lashes are the ‘latest thing’ in luxury beauty, but before you start throwing red paint- know that they are cruelty free, and the hairs are obtained either by natural shedding, or by gently brushing the animal fur. Mink fur, as well as being natural is durable. The hairs are short, they are very thick, super soft and do not break easily, hence being at the forefront of the false lash industry. As creator Lindsey Cole and I chatted throughout the night, it was clear that 1) she was very much an animal lover and 2) animal welfare was VERY important to her. As a make up artist herself, Lindsey has worked with mink lashes in America, and wanted to create a product for beauty junkies in the UK that gave the same glamourous look and feel- out of this desire, Total Minks Lashes was born! Complete with their own carry case and glue, retailing from £24.99, they can be worn up to 25 times.. meaning they’re under £1 per wear! Bargain!
