It’s my party and I’ll eat the whole cake if I want to!!
On Sunday it was my birthday, and although this year it was fairly low key- (no private dining (sob), no Michelin starred food (sob)- the company, the (totally unexpected) gifts and evenings’ entertainment made it a memorable and special one! After a looooong lunch, we headed straight to North Greenwich for the SL20 concert at the 02.
Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sandé, Rizzle Kicks, Labrinth, Plan B, Jamie Cullum, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Rudimental, Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora, Jahmene Douglas, Beverley Knight and the London Community Gospel choir played tribute to teenager Stephen Lawrence who lost his life in a brutal racist attack twenty years ago. As electric and powerful as the performances of the artists was, a poignant and sobering message ran throughout. Unity is key if this multicultural nation is to progress; so racism MUST be stamped out!
As I took time to reflect on things I heard about Stephen, and a little about what the trust set up in is memory is doing to help disadvantaged children, I couldn’t help feeling thankful to God for keeping me another year, and I’m grateful that my 30th year was full of so many wonderful experiences I’ll never forget.
Highlights from the concert will be shown tonight: Tuesday 1st October BBC1 at 22:35 – it’s a must see- and for me Ed Sheeran STOLE-THE-SHOW!! I really hope they show his full performance, because his set was one of the best things I’ve heard musically so far this year!
